Safety First
The Trust is managed by a seven Trustees who monitor and oversee its work.
The Trust has worked hard to maintain operating practices and procedures in-line with current best practice. All staff and helpers working with the Trust do so within the guidelines set out in the Trusts operational policies and procedures and nearly all are First Aid trained.
The Trust has developed a culture of safety over the last four decades and to this end, responsibility for the organisation and management of activities is delegated to two Activity Leaders and a team of Instructors and Activity Assistants.
The Trust also uses independent consultants in the field of outdoor education to advise it and help review and overlook its activities. As a further safeguard, parents and Trustees who visit or observe activities are invited to complete a visitor’s report which is sent in confidence directly to the Trust Director to ensure there is some monitoring of the activities.
The Trust is affiliated to, and recognised by, a number of organisations including Staffordshire Council of Voluntary Youth Services (SCVYS), Youth Clubs UK, Derbyshire Caving Association (DCA), Peak Instructors Caving Association (PICA) and the Birmingham Association of Youth Clubs (BAYC), Manor Park Sailing Club and the Midland Canoe Club.
The Trust is not licensed under the Outdoor Activities Licensing Act (2004) because it is a voluntary organisation.
All this is clarified in the Trust’s Health & Safety Policy document which is available on request.
